The Other 22!
You killed your two hour workout.
Now spend the OTHER 22 the right way to get the most out of your hard work!

Lot’s of people train hard, and there are millions of gym rats around the world who train like absolute animals. There are people who have the skill for bringing the intensity, they know how to flip the switch and make things happen. Fewer of those, but still far more of them than there are champions.
So what is the difference? As is often said, “you do not rise to the occassion, you fall to your systems”. Sometimes this is true in training, but for many gym rats, the gym is the easy part. In fact, for most athletes in most sports what separates the middle of the pack from the elite is not simply the training itself, but the consistency with which your goals are supported throughout your whole life.
You may hear people say whatever it may be isn’t a sport, it is a lifestyle…well that is true.
When it comes to training, making it a PART OF YOUR LIFE is how you maintain consistency. You build it in such a way that it is not compromised, and you execute on your training no matter what. (If you need help on that, check out below!)
The same is true with everything else in your life too! Your professional, financial and interpersonal success all depend on that universally priceless, intangible that sets the best apart from the rest.
And all the things that support your training are no different, although in our “grind” culture, sometimes legitimate self care can feel like wasteful indulgence, or even squandering our potential when we could be doing something productive.
However, the fact is, when structured properly, supporting your recovery from training, and the success of your athletic endeavors throughout your whole lifestyle is not a luxury reserved for special occassions, but rather an investment that the elite know is neccesary to be their best self. You may be able to gain ground burning the candle at both ends, but when it is time to pay off that debt, where are you now?
For some people it is not the grind culture, but just the perception that they are getting away with it because they did make some progress without that investment. You still have a good session after drinking and think that is fine, but what could you have done? You stayed up late arguing on the internet, sacrificing sleep and accepting stress for no reason, and you still felt good the next day. You skipped a meal and still hit a 10lb PR that day, so you tell yourself it doesn’t matter. Which is fine if that is aligned with your values, but if you need to know in your heart that you did your best, you have to give it your best, and do everything you can with what you’ve got.
At the end of the day, it doesn’t have to be perfect, but consitently covering all your bases is the ticket to success. In fact, perfect is not perfect if it is not sustainable, because consistency beats everything.
Consistently cover all the bases well, and that is when the magic happens.
Which is exactly why I wrote The Other 22!
The 2 hours in the gym is the easy part.
The 22 hours outside of it is the part most people need help with. And it is the part that matters the most. Look at it, it is 11 times larger!
